Large logistics center to be built in Belarus with participation of Chinese corporation

RIGA, 6 November (BelTA) – A large logistics center will be built in the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone with the participation of a Chinese corporation. The center will be linked to the Baltic ports, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said at the fifth meeting of the heads of government of the Central and Eastern European countries and China 16 + 1) in Riga on 6 November, BelTA has learned.

“The construction of a large logistics center is underway with the participation of a major Chinese corporation, a player in the global logistics market. It will be linked to the Baltic ports. The center is expected to serve the trade flows between Europe and Asia,” Andrei Kobyakov said.

The Chinese-Belarusian Park will become the gem of the Silk Road Economic Belt, the Prime Minister said. Being a longtime friend of China, Belarus was one of the first to voice its support of the initiative for the project One Belt, One Road. “For his part, during a visit to Minsk in May last year the head of the Chinese state noted that Belarus has unique advantages for the development of the Silk Road Economic Belt. The country is located in the heart of Europe, and on the Silk Road, and the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone should become the gem of this belt,” Andrei Kobyakov said.

Belarus’ foreign partners show keen interest in the project. Talks are underway for companies from both China and the EU member states to make part of the park.

According to Andrei Kobyakov, China’s initiative One Belt, One Road correlates with another large-scale project of “integration of integrations” which is the development of the common economic and humanitarian space on the Eurasian continent.

“These two projects envisage the development of infrastructure ties in transport and energy sectors, complementary and efficient mechanisms of cooperation between various integration processes,” the Belarusian head of government said.
