Kupchyna hails Austrian business' high level of trust in Belarus

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – Austria is an important economic partner of Belarus, especially in the investment sector, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Austria, Belarus’ Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna Alena Kupchyna said in an exclusive interview to BelTA as Belarus and Austria mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The diplomat stressed that Austria has been among the top five investors in the Belarusian economy in the recent years. “In our opinion, this proves a high level of trust in Belarus from the Austrian business,” said Alena Kupchyna.

“It should also be noted that, according to Austrian investors, the efficiency of money injected in Belarusian projects is relatively high. These factors help approve of new projects. One of the recent examples is Kronospan Group,” the Ambassador stressed. In 2012-2016 the group invested more than $870 million in woodworking projects. These facilities account for almost 20% of Belarus’ woodworking production and 25% of exports. During the recent meeting with Belarusian PM Andrei Kobyakov, Kronospan head Peter Kaindl stated that the group considers investing up to $200 million more in the country in the coming years.
