MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) - The World Bank and other international organizations expected the Belarusian economy to collapse in 2022, Belarusian First Deputy Economy Minister Andrei Kartun said in BelTA’s project "The Nation Speaks".
Belarus was predicted to fall by at least 20%, or 30% or even more. However, Belarus tackled these difficulties although it was not easy. "We have set up an operational team in the government, which, in fact, is still working, though not in the previous mode. At that time, we worked around the clock. The team met once or twice every day, weekends were no exception. We solved the problems of business in manual mode," the first deputy minister said.
In addition to the loss of sales markets, the situation was aggravated by the fact that many foreign companies from unfriendly countries left. "They left behind their employees, which was socially irresponsibly, and tried to leave our country with everything they could. They blamed the state and lamented the decision to introduce interim administration and so on. We had to do it. No one except the state needed it. We take care of our citizen," Andrei Kartun emphasized.
Largely due to the fact that the nation rallied together and government agencies worked in close cooperation with enterprises, we were able to put the economy on a positive trajectory, he said. "Still, there were more socially responsible enterprises and companies that were able to redirect to other markets. It was not easy. The pandemic was a great learning curve for our export-oriented business," Andrei Kartun said.
