Irish company might build solar power plant in Pinsk

BREST, 18 March (BelTA) – Pinsk is mulling over the construction of a solar power plant, BelTA learned from Pinsk First Deputy Mayor Mikhail Samolazov.

The investment project is to be undertaken by the Ireland-based company Pure Energy that has already implemented similar projects in a number of Belarusian towns. The company representatives met with the region’s major energy consumers at the Pinsk Executive Committee. Lower energy costs can save these companies a lot of money and reduce the prime cost of products, thus making them more competitive.

The municipal authorities are also interested in mutually beneficial cooperation. “The town has some specific features. Local fuels account for 68% of the fuel and energy balance of Pinsk. The town seeks to switch to alternative sources of energy. We already produce hydroelectric power – the company Dneprobugvodput operates a small hydroelectric power plant. Solar power holds a lot of promise. Therefore, our interests coincide and the project looks very promising,” the first deputy mayor said.

In his words, the project is under scrutiny now. It is yet to be decided how powerful the new plant will be. Such a plant can generate from 4 to 12 MW of electric energy. Depending on the capacity, the investor is ready to inject from €5 million to €12 million. The town is ready to provide a 20 ha land plot. The project might be implemented within two years.
