Iranian ambassador on visit to Vitebsk Oblast to discuss cooperation options

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – Iran would like to establish interregional contacts with Vitebsk Oblast, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Belarus Alireza Sanei told reporters prior to the meeting with the leadership of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, BelTA reports.

The diplomat noted that Vitebsk Oblast has great economic potential. It is noteworthy that Vitebsk Oblast was the first region that he visited as he was trying to get to know Belarus better.

“As you know, the economies of Iran and Belarus are complementary. We have products that can be of interest to Belarus. You have high-quality equipment and engineering products, that is exactly what Iran needs. Iran has a well-developed mining industry and a lot of mineral deposits, so we would like to interact with Vitebsk Oblast in this area. As for the oil and petrochemical industry, we can offer various products that Belarus and Vitebsk Oblast in particular may need,” Alireza Sanei said.

The parties can be of great help to each other given the current economic situation in the region and the world, the ambassador added: “Together we can do more.”

“Iran produces agricultural products, but we need potash fertilizers. The potash industry is well developed in Belarus, you have deposits. Therefore, we signed an agreement for the supply of 400,000 tonnes of potash fertilizers,” he informed.

The ambassador emphasized that during the visit the parties will explore cooperation options between Vitebsk Oblast and Iranian enterprises.

The meeting was hosted by the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee. The participants discussed ways to intensify bilateral cooperation, including economic contacts. The ambassador will also visit Vitebsk State Medical University, FEZ Vitebsk and Polotsk-Steklovolokno on 21 November.
