Interest in Belarusian-Swiss projects in IT, banking, pharmaceutics noted

MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – The Swiss private sector is interested in implementing joint projects and in cooperation with Belarus in such areas as logistics, information technologies, pharmaceutics, and banking, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI), co-chairman of the Belarusian-Swiss Business Council Vladimir Ulakhovich before the council’s session on 26 November.

The official said: “The council produces concrete results. Belarus-Switzerland trade has increased by nearly 40% this year. Our export is on the rise.”

As an example he mentioned OOO Hess Great Stone, a daughter enterprise of the Swiss company Carrosserie HESS AG. The enterprise has become a resident company of the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. The park’s presentation took place in Switzerland last year.

“We see very positive dynamics in the development of relations in the business sphere. It produces results in the political dimension as well. One can say that business paves some promising way. We maintain very good interaction with business associations. We have a serious agenda we work on. It includes the development of such areas as logistics, information technologies, and the use of Swiss investments on our preferential platforms,” Vladimir Ulakhovich said.

In his words, Switzerland is interesting for Belarus as a country that vigorously develops its IT sector. Switzerland is the world’s first in terms of the number of patents per capita in the area of artificial intelligence. In terms of the volume of export of mechanical engineering products per capita it is the world’s second. Switzerland is also one of the world leaders in the production of medications. “Belarus has its own advantages in these spheres,” Vladimir Ulakhovich added. “The session of the council is very important per se. It represents a certain serious step that will increase trade turnover and reveal new projects.” He also mentioned woodworking industry as a promising cooperation avenue.

The meeting in Minsk gathered representatives of 30 Swiss companies. Belarus was represented by about 90 companies and organizations. The event was organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the company Stadler Rail AG.
