MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) – India is still highly interested in close cooperation with Belarus in the potash industry, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Pankaj Saxena said at a press conference held on 24 January to mark India’s Republic Day, BelTA has learned.
“India maintains a keen interest in the Belarusian potash industry,” the diplomat said. He added that this matter was discussed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko as the two met during the SCO Summit in Tashkent last year.
“As for Indian investments, we expect an answer from Belarus. Three options [proposals] have been submitted to the Belarusian side. These are a long-term agreement, a project on joint development of deposits and Indian investments,” Pankaj Saxena said. The Ambassador stressed that India is “open to every one of these options and expects an answer from Belarus.”
In his words, India buys Belarusian potash fertilizers on a regular basis. In 2015 a five-year contract was signed with the Belarusian Potash Company for supplies in 2016-2020. “The amount is specified on the annual basis,” the diplomat said.
