Hi-tech solutions in spotlight during presentation of Belarus’ economic potential in Moscow

MOSCOW, 23 May (BelTA) – The business and culture center of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia hosted a presentation of Belarus’ economic potential that highlighted the country’s hi-tech sectors on 23 May, BelTA has learned.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko opened the presentation. He noted that the embassy already held similar events to showcase the capacities of the country’s mechanical engineering industry, the potential of the Belarusian regions and the capital city. “Many of my colleagues had no idea that Belarus has something to show in terms of supercomputers. The Hi-Tech Park is an analog of Silicon Valley. Belarus is also associated with sophisticated heart surgeries, a successful heart-lung transplant surgery, and liver transplant surgeries on par with Germany, Israel, and the United States. Belarus offers high-quality pharmaceutical products at competitive prices and high-quality university education that is cheaper than in our neighboring countries. Belarus has a strong Academy of Sciences and a fundamental scientific base on a wide range of areas. Besides, Belarus is building a nuclear power plant and has its own space vehicles,” Igor Petrishenko stressed.

The ambassador pointed out that Belarus is developing trade relations with more than 180 countries. Belarus has recently been strengthening partner ties with geographically remote countries of Africa, Southeast Asia, the Far and Middle East, South Asia, and Latin America. “Traditionally, we maintain our partner relations with the countries of the European Union. Ambassadors and representatives of the mentioned regions are present at today’s presentation,” Igor Petrishenko said.

The presentation informed the participants about the sectors of the Belarusian economy that are of special interest to the heads of the diplomatic missions judging by their earlier meetings with representatives of the Belarusian embassy.

The event hosted by the business and culture center presented cooperation proposals from the National Agency of Investment and Privatization of Belarus, the Education Ministry, the Industry Ministry, the Health Ministry, the Agriculture and Food Ministry, the State Science and Technology Committee, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, and the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The presentation showcased promising projects for cooperation with Belarus in investment, industry, agriculture, supplies of pharmaceutical products and medical equipment, education, and cooperation in science and technology.

The event gathered some 30 ambassadors and heads of the trade and economy missions of the embassies of the countries of Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America accredited to Moscow.
