GRODNO, 29 March (BelTA) – Grodno Oblast can become a popular travel destination for eco-tourists and diaspora tourists from the United States of America. Cooperation in this field was discussed at the meeting of Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Kravtsov with Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Belarus Jenifer Moore, BelTA has learned.
Tourism is one of the most promising avenues of bilateral cooperation. Tourist arrivals from the United States to Belarus are on the rise. One of the reasons for this phenomenon is the visa waiver for tourists arriving by air. Apart from that, tourists arriving in Grodno by road can visit the Grodno tourist zone visa-free. “The United States is home to many people whose ancestors lived in this area. We have many sites from various historical periods and locations related to various nationalities that would be of interest to foreign travelers. The region can become an interesting travel destination for diaspora tourists,” Vladimir Kravtsov said.
Jenifer Moore noted that Belarus is implementing a long-term project to promote agro-eco-tourism. “It was really heartening to read in one of influential magazines that Belarus topped the ranking of the best places for eco-tourism,” she noted.
Information technology is another promising avenue of cooperation. “Americans know that Belarus has a great number of educated young people who are competitive on the global labor market. American business is interested in investing in Belarusian IT companies,” Jenifer Moore said. She emphasized that the United States is running programs to support startups.
Grodno Oblast is home to several companies with American capital. One of them is a Lida-based enterprise producing telescopic sights. There are some new, interesting projects that are under consideration now.
Work is underway to promote products made in Grodno Oblast on the U.S. market. Local producers are well positioned to increase their trade with the United States. During the meeting the parties also discussed humanitarian cooperation and educational partnerships.
