Grodno Oblast, Russia’s Republic of Tuva sign protocol of cooperation

Grodno Oblast, Russia’s Republic of Tuva sign protocol of cooperation

MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Karanik held a working meeting with Head of the Republic of Tuva Vladislav Khovalyg following the talks between the Russian delegation and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 20 January, BelTA has learned.

“Although we are the westernmost point of the Union State and do not border on the Russian Federation, it is our region’s main trading partner. Perhaps the largest and most significant project of the Union State is the Belarusian nuclear power plant located in Grodno Oblast,” Vladimir Karanik said addressing the participants of the meeting.

“I believe we have built a good partnership. About 25 cooperation agreements have been signed with various regions of Russia. We really hope that you will have the opportunity to visit Grodno Oblast one day. Spring and summer are the best time to see the beauty of our region. Grodno will host the 9th Forum of the Regions, so we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to take part in it. You will be able to study the industrial and tourism potential of the region and discuss cooperation prospects in greater detail,” he said.

Vladimir Karanik recalled that the need to strengthen cooperation was emphasized at the meeting with the head of state on 20 January. “It became clear during the meeting that we have many points of contact, like heavy industry and equipment. Some of enterprises producing agricultural equipment are located in our region,” the governor emphasized.

“Thank you for the invitation to visit the forum that is due at the end of June. If we manage to come, we will discuss everything in more detail. All the things that you have mentioned can be incorporated into our agreement. Agriculture is our priority now. Your experience in milk processing will be of great help to us,” Vladislav Khovalyg stressed.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to increase trade and optimize the trade balance, expand cooperation ties, and take effective measures to invigorate trade and economic relations between the republics.

Vladislav Khovalyg and Vladimir Karanik outlined priority areas for cooperation. They include plans to expand the assortment of deliveries, intensify contacts between industrial enterprises, cooperation in agriculture, tourism, sanatorium treatment, healthcare and culture. A protocol was signed at the end of the meeting.

In January-November 2021, the trade between Belarus and the Republic of Tuva amounted to $47,500. Belarus’ major exports were machinery and devices for lifting, moving, loading or unloading, ferrous metal structures, women’s underwear and knitwear.
