Grodno Oblast, Romania to set up joint ventures

GRODNO, 11 December (BelTA) – Grodno Oblast and Romania see prospects for developing cooperation in setting up joint ventures. The idea was discussed during the meeting of Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Kravtsov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Belarus Viorel Mosanu on 11 December, BelTA has learned.

The Ambassador arrived in Grodno on a fact-finding visit. The meeting touched upon opportunities for cooperation in economic, cultural, and tourism affairs. “Our countries have similar economies but they don’t compete with each other. The fact enables conditions conducive to mutually beneficial cooperation both in the production sector and in agriculture. I can see good opportunities for raising trade figures and setting up joint ventures. I am talking primarily about woodworking and food production,” noted Viorel Mosanu.

Positive examples are already available. A Romanian pharmaceutical company is busy starting the joint production of medications in Logoisk, Minsk Oblast.

The diplomat also noted he intended to establish ties between enterprises and representatives of the business communities in Belarus and Romania in addition to bolstering interregional cooperation. The Romanian province of Maramures is now looking for partners among Belarusian oblasts, he said.

The sides discussed participation in joint European projects with regard to cultural cooperation and city twinning.

Vladimir Kravtsov stressed the promising nature of the development of relations between Grodno Oblast and Romania. “Trade and economic ties are modest at this stage but it is possible to secure a good growth rate,” he said.

The Ambassador was expected to meet with representatives of the oblast and city administrations, the Grodno branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Apart from that, a concert of Romanian guitar music was organized in the Grodno Musical College.
