Great opportunities for cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s Tula Oblast in high technology

TULA, 6 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia’s Tula Oblast have big growth opportunities in high technology, tourism, and agriculture, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota told the media following the negotiations with Tula Oblast Governor Alexei Dyumin on 6 July, BelTA has learned.

“There are some promising areas for cooperation, high technology in the first place. The Union State is implementing some programs aimed at starting the production of brand new high-technology goods. I would like to see Tula Oblast companies closely involved in these projects,” Grigory Rapota remarked.

The state secretary views Belarus’ recreational potential as another promising area for cooperation. He recalled that Tula Oblast is home to quite a few industrial enterprises. The region was also hit by the Chernobyl disaster. Thus, he said, the citizens of the region could make a great use of Belarus’ recreational facilities. Grigory Rapota noted that this matter will be on the agenda of his upcoming meeting with representatives of Belarus’ tourism industry.

Speaking about the cooperation in agriculture, the state secretary mentioned a venture set up in Tula Oblast applying a new technology to process potatoes. This technology is on par with its Dutch analogue but cheaper. “In this connection, Tula Oblast has contacted Belarus’ Gomel Oblast which is famous for its potato farming,” Grigory Rapota underlined.

The Belarusian and Russian journalists met with Grigory Rapota in Tula as part of the press tour arranged by the Union State Standing Committee and the international news agency Russia Today.
