MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Nikolai Snopkov assessed the possibility of boosting trade turnover with Uzbekistan and told the media more about Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation during the plenary session of the second Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum on 27 August, BelTA has learned.

Nikolai Snopkov recalled that the presidents of Belarus and Uzbekistan have set a task to increase trade turnover to about $1 billion. "The roadmap signed following the visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Uzbekistan in February this year has  potential to reach even $1.5 billion. I think that everything is in our hands," he said. "The main driver of our partnership is active industrial cooperation. It is the foundation of long-term cooperation between our countries.”

Nikolai Snopkov also emphasized Belarus-Uzbekistan cooperation in those areas that shape the quality of human resources. According to him, these areas highlight the depth and scope of bilateral interaction.

"Healthcare, for example. Uzbekistan hosted the Belarus-Uzbekistan Days of Healthcare and Medical Education. In turn, Belarus hosted a forum of medical workers. Special attention was paid to practical interaction in maternity and child care. In education, over 400 contracts and agreements have been signed. More than 5,000 Uzbek citizens study in Belarusian universities. A forum of rectors has been held. The opening of a branch of Vitebsk State University, one of the leading Belarusian universities, in Uzbekistan is on the agenda," he said.

Moreover, in the scientific, technical and information domain, the parties are implementing joint projects, technology transfer, and internships in scientific organizations. "This is the large-scale cooperation, which forms the future structures of our economies," Nikolai Snopkov emphasized.

In culture the two countries have established direct ties and creative exchanges among theaters, book exhibitions, and fairs. Uzbek artists participate in the arts festival Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk.

Nikolai Snopkov pointed out that the countries actively cooperate in the most competitive domain – in sports. “We demonstrate mutual sincere support here. A memorandum of cooperation between the ice hockey federations of Belarus and Uzbekistan was signed in August 2024. I believe that the cooperation between the federations will be continued,” he said.

"There are many opportunities to join our efforts in different areas. This is why we go on and expand cooperation not only at the state level, but also at the level of regions, individual enterprises and institutions," the minister summarized.

A Belarusian delegation led by Natalya Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, is on an official visit to Uzbekistan. These days Tashkent is hosting the second Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum. About 100 representatives of the business community and state agencies are taking part in the forum from the Belarusian side. The Council of the Republic recalled the results of the first Belarus-Uzbekistan Women's Business Forum: 14 memorandums and agreements on cooperation, including an agreement on the establishment of a joint leather and footwear manufacturing enterprise, and 15 contracts worth over Br90 million (350 billion Uzbek sums) were signed.
