GOMEL, 11 December (BelTA) – Gomel Oblast and Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod Oblast have plans to set up a joint machine-tool holding company. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Dvornik and Head of the Representative Office of Nizhny Novgorod in Belarus Sergei Petrov on 11 December, BelTA has learned.
The holding company will incorporate the machine-tool plants of the two regions. It will give an additional impetus to the bilateral cooperation, Vladimir Dvornik stressed. “We have good production capacities and long-standing traditions of machine-tool building, which will help us set up the company,” he said.
The parties also paid attention to other promising cooperation avenues. For example, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is set to increase its imports of agricultural machines of OAO Gomselmash. First of all, this applies to grain and fodder harvesters. The Russian region is also interested in direct supplies of Belarusian cheese.
Vladimir Dvornik and Sergei Petrov agreed that a delegation of Nizhny Novgorod businessmen will visit Gomel in early 2016 to study the industrial capacities of the region and sign contracts for wholesale supply of products. There are plans to step up cooperation in construction, especially in the run-up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup as the Russian city is preparing to host some of its events. Apart from that, Nizhny Novgorod businessmen show interest in cooperation with companies of the free economic zone Gomel-Raton.
