GOMEL, 13 August (BelTA) – Gomel Oblast companies intend to showcase their food products at the Belarusian national pavilion which will open in the city of Chengdu in Sichuan province of China in November, Igor Aslyuk, the head of the economy committee at the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, told journalists on 13 August, BelTA has learned.
On 13 August, the dairy company Milkavita hosted a meeting between representatives of the Gomel Oblast administration, Gomel Oblast companies, and Zhang Yi, Director General of the Chinese trade and investment company Great Silk Road and head of the Belarusian pavilion in Chengdu. The parties discussed prospects and terms of the participation of Gomel Oblast companies in the national pavilion of Belarusian products.
According to Igor Aslyuk, at least ten Gomel Oblast companies, mainly food companies, will display their products in the pavilion.
“We started to expand into the market of China several years ago. The main aim of our companies is to boost the export,” Igor Aslyuk noted. According to him, companies have to get accreditation to export food products to China. “This primarily concerns meat and dairy products, alcoholic beverages, and confectionery that have already been recognized for their quality abroad,” he said.
Zhang Yi noted that the Belarusian pavilion in Chengdu will be set up in a free economic zone with well-developed logistics infrastructure. This free economic zone is already home to national pavilions of other countries. It is located near a railway port and two large wholesale markets hosting over 7,000 Chinese wholesale companies dealing in food products. “Setting up the Belarusian national pavilion will help enhance Belarus-China cooperation not only in economy and investment but also in tourism, education, and culture,” Zhang Yi said.
The design of the Belarusian national pavilion will resemble Mir Castle and will feature national symbols of Belarus. The pavilion will occupy almost 1,400 m2 and will offer products of various Belarusian companies. The pavilion will also host negotiations, business forums, and other events. Plans are in place to launch an internet platform to help boost the bilateral cooperation.
