GOMEL, 11 May (BelTA) – Gomel Oblast and the Chinese province Sichuan have signed a cooperation agreement, the press service of the Gomel Oblast administration told BelTA.
The document provides for organizing cooperation on terms of partnership, equality, trust, and mutual benefits in economy, agriculture, healthcare and culture, education, sport and tourism. The sides agreed that for the sake of advancing cooperation in the mentioned areas direct contacts will be established and cities of the two regions will be twinned.
After signing the document Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik told the Chinese partners: “The agreement will become a foundation of solid friendship, will contribute to the establishment of mutually beneficial business contacts and will greatly expand our opportunities in joint work.”
A number of industrial enterprises and education institutions in Gomel Oblast are already busy working on joint projects. In particular, a joint venture of Gomselmash works in Harbin to assemble agricultural machines while Gomel Engine Repair Plant makes motor vehicles and small-capacity engines using Chinese technologies.
The Gomel State University has signed 25 agreements on cooperation with universities and organizations of China. In 2013 a Belarusian-Chinese lab for vacuum and plasma technologies was opened at premises of the university. A similar lab was opened in Nanjing University.
Work is in progress to reach the Chinese market to sell the meat and dairy products made in Gomel Oblast.
So far Gomel Oblast has signed 180 interregional agreements with over 20 countries across the globe.
