MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) - As part of Belarusian-Chinese cooperation, Gomel Chemical Plant will send its maiden 60-container train carrying 1,500 tonnes of fertilizers to China on 31 May. The train will cover more than 7,000km in 14 days, BelTA learned from the Belarusian logistics operator Beltamozhservice.
For the first time in the history of domestic logistics, Beltamozhservice together with Gomel Chemical Plant and other companies organized a new railway container service to deliver Belarusian-made compound fertilizers to China along the route Tsentrolit (Belarus) - Xianguojigang (China).
The container train will proceed to its destination point through the territory of Belarus and Russia, via the Zabaikalsk-Manchuria border crossing.
In 2023, this will be the fifth train put together by the Gomel branch of Beltamozhservice and sent from the Tsentrolit station. The next step is to organize delivery of imported raw materials, components and goods from China by regular container trains for Gomel Oblast and other regions of Belarus. Beltamozhservice is also considering the possibility of setting up a hub for empty containers in Gomel Oblast, which will be an important step towards new conditions for registration of export-import supplies in the context of the new economy.
Since 2016, the company has been actively developing projects within the framework of the Belt and road initiative to transport goods by rail. In January-May of 2023, 29 container trains were sent to China. The volume of transported cargo amounted to 48,000 tonnes.
