Golovchenko reviews performance of Baranovichi Cotton Production Amalgamation

BARANOVICHI, 13 January (BelTA) – The implementation of the development strategy allowed Baranovichi Cotton Production Amalgamation to significantly improve its performance, Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said following a meeting at the company, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian head of government visited the company during his trip to Baranovichi. He toured the manufacturing facilities of the company where he was shown the technological process of making cotton fabrics. In particular, Roman Golovchenko visited a spinning facility, as well as weaving and finishing factories. The prime minister took part in the meeting to review the company’s performance in 2022 and to discuss its development strategy until 2028.

“Today we have reviewed the first results of the implementation of this document that was adopted in April last year. We see that the company’s performance indicators have drastically improved. Of course, we have not returned to consistently positive performance yet. Things were so bad that the business cannot be turned around within 5-7 months. We have had a tough, frank conversation. We see that it is necessary to make corrections, to continue the upgrade of the enterprise. There is no talk of shutting down or repurposing or anything else. It is not on the agenda, although a number of options were considered before. This is absolutely not how a state should approach this matter. This asset can be made profitable again,” the prime minister said.

According to him, it would be wrong for the company to take the path of least resistance and buy ready-made fabrics. “Such an option was under discussion, but we need to learn the lessons of last year. We can buy fabrics today, but will we be able to buy them tomorrow? Therefore, there is no need to abandon what has already been created. This is an important part of our efforts to become more self-reliant and to meet the needs of our country and our partners with all types of fabrics,” Roman Golovchenko emphasized.

“There is a strategy. Its implementation will continue. I think that in the near future we will make personnel decisions and take other measures in order to optimize the work of the enterprise. There are four factories here, not all of them have good profitability. We need to explore technical and organizational possibilities to increase the efficiency of production in spinning and weaving industries,” the head of government concluded.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Parkhomchik, Brest Oblast Governor Yuri Shuleiko, and Chair of the Bellegprom light industry concern Tatiana Lugina.
