Garlyk mining and processing factory produces first tonne of potash ore

MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) - The Garlyk mining and processing factory in Turkmenistan extracted its first tonne of potash ore, BelTA learned from OAO Belaruskali.

The first tonne of potash ore was produced at the Garlyk mining and processing factory by miners of OAO Trest Shakhtospetsstroi company (Soligorsk). Currently the underground work is done on two shafts. Installation of the main technological equipment is in full swing at the factory,” the experts informed The facility is to be delivered on a turnkey basis in March 2017.

Belarus’ largest foreign project is carried our by OAO Belgorkhimprom jointly with OAO Belaruskali, OAO Trest Shakhtospetsstroi and the companies affiliated with the Ministry of Construction and Architecture.

In January 2010 the Belarusian company OAO Belgorhimprom signed a contract with the state concern Turkmenhimiya for the turn-key construction of the Garlyk mining and processing factory by Belarusian specialists. The factory is designed to make 1.4 million tonnes of potash fertilizers using the Garlyk minefield of potash salts in Lebap Oblast, Turkmenistan. The project was launched in 2012. Turkmenistan’s domestic needs are estimated at approximately 700,000 tonnes. The country intends to export the rest.
