VITEBSK, 19 March (BelTA) – Foreign companies show interest in projects to develop Belarus' pharmaceutical industry, Head of the Belarus President Administration Alexander Kosinets said during his working visit to Vitebsk Oblast on 19 March, BelTA has learned.
The official paid a visit to the veterinary drugs company BelVitunifarm to discuss the progress in the implementation of an investment project to produce pharmaceuticals. Alexander Kosinets emphasized that special attention is paid in Belarus to the development of this industry. “The Vitebsk-based company is a good platform for producing not only veterinary drugs, but also more than 300 pharmaceuticals for human use. It has foreign partners eager to take part in Belarusian pharmaceutical projects. Along with many other benefits, this allows for import substitution and creation of new jobs,” he pointed out.
The veterinary drugs enterprise was founded as Vitebsk Biofactory in 1930. In 2006-2010, the company’s production facilities were upgraded. After the renovation, Vitebsk Biofactory was almost the only biological enterprise in Belarus specializing in the manufacture of complex veterinary drugs for treatment, prevention and diagnosis of diseases. In 2012 the company was reorganized into BelVitunifarm.
The program of the visit to Vitebsk Oblast also included a discussion of the projects E-School and Vitebsk Silicon Valley proposed by the Chinese company ZTE Corporation. Besides, Alexander Kosinets reviewed the renovation works at the building to house the museum of the People’s Art School founded by Marc Chagall. Matters related to the organization of the 25th edition of the international festival of arts Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk were also discussed.
