MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – The amount of electricity used by electric cars in Belarus has doubled over last year to total 30 million kWh, Belarusian Energy Minister Aleksei Kushnarenko said during a meeting with the staff of the Oshmyany Power Grids branch of the Grodnoenergo regional electricity supplier, the press service of the Energy Ministry told BelTA.

The minister spoke about the development of the energy sector and noted that the number of electric cars on the roads of the country has reached about 21,000. “Comfortable conditions have been created in our country to promote the use of e-vehicles. They run not only in Minsk and regional centers, but also in smaller towns of Zhodino and Shklov. A similar project is in the works in Novopolotsk. The project to install the charging stations involves Belselectrosetstroy, an organization affiliated with the Energy Ministry. The volume of electricity consumption by e-vehicles in 2024 reached 30 million kWh and doubled over last year,” he said.
