Electric motorcycles, electric quadbikes in development in Belarus

MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) – Electric motorcycles and electric quadbikes are being developed in Belarus, BelTA learned from Andrei Podobed, Head of the Commerce Department of the instrument-making plant Optron of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The executive said: “We are now working on a lineup of electric bicycles and are developing design documents for electric scooters. Engineering documents are ready for heavy electric scooters. Breadboard models based on our wheel hub motors and controllers have been developed. There is no doubt we are going to polish and improve them. Apart from that, we have a strong interest in electric motorcycles and electric quadbikes. Development is already in progress. We are now working on engineering documents.”

Belarusian electric transport products for individuals are not available in retail for now. “We don’t make them in batches yet. We can make sets of motor hub wheels for electric bicycles to order. We get such requests. But we intend to start retailing the products a bit later. The assembly shop is nearly ready. Now our products have to go through the testing and certification process. Batch production will begin after that and Belarusian individual electric transport will be available in retail,” said Andrei Podobed.

Optron Company has modernized motor hub wheels for light vehicles and has developed a new control module and software. Work is now in progress to design individual electric transport based on these wheels.
