Egypt intends to increase import of Belarusian goods, services

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) - Egypt would like to increase import of Belarusian goods and services, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Egypt Sergei Rachkov said following the meeting between the delegation of Egypt’s South Sinai Governorate and Minsk Oblast authorities.

Sergei Rachkov said that the visit of the South Sinai Governor to Belarus is a serious sign showing that Egypt is interested in the development of relations. “Our task is to develop the widest possible cooperation in trade, economy, culture and sport. We are interested in building up the export of Belarusian goods and services to Egypt,” the Ambassador said.

The diplomat noted that Belarus has always supported Egypt in tourism. A great number of Belarusians holiday in Egypt, in the South Sinai Governorate in particular. The share of tourism in Egypt’s GDP reaches about 10-11%. Tourism is very important for Egypt, although the situation in the industry remains difficult.

Following the negotiations between Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Semyon Shapiro and South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda Sedike, Minsk Oblast and South Sinai signed a memorandum of understanding. The document provides for the development of all-round cooperation in science, culture, information, social and tourist areas and also in environmental protection. The memorandum enters into force immediately after signing and is valid for five years.
