Ecuador shows interest in Belarusian rescue equipment

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Belarus plans to export its rescue machinery and equipment to Ecuador. This is envisaged in a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in prevention and containment of emergencies that was signed between the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry and the Ecuadorian Secretariat for Risk Management in Minsk on 17 January, BelTA has learned.

Minister Coordinator of Internal and External Security Policy of Ecuador Cesar Navas Vera met with Belarus’ Emergencies Minister Vladimir Vashchenko to sign the memorandum. The document comprises the main areas of cooperation in public security between the two countries. The parties agreed to establish supplies of Belarusian rescue machinery and equipment to Ecuador. In line with the agreement Belarus will train specialists for Ecuadorian rescue agencies. Ecuador is also ready to adopt Belarus’ experience in putting out wildfires.

“We watched the exercises of the Emergencies Ministry on Sunday. The equipment they used is all of Belarus’ manufacture. This opens new avenues for cooperation. We have already invited the Belarusian Emergencies Minister to visit Ecuador,” Cesar Navas Vera said. He also expressed gratitude to Belarus for humanitarian assistance provided to Ecuador after the earthquake in April 2016. Belarus shipped tents, blankets, diesel power plants and folding beds to Ecuador.

Cesar Navas Vera held meetings with representatives of the Belarusian ministries, visited the National Emergencies Response and Management Center under the Emergencies Ministry. The Ecuadorian guest is set to visit the University of Civil Protection.
