MINSK, 3 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian government has invited the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to take part in a project to build a rail link between the Belarusian capital and the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. The project was discussed during a meeting between Belarus’ Prime Minister Sergei Rumas and EBRD First Vice President Jurgen Rigterink on 3 December, BelTA has learned.
“We are at the beginning of very important work for us. It is an ambitious investment project to build a high-speed rail link between Minsk and the Great Stone Industrial Park. We are also discussing this project with other financial institutions, searching for the best deals. We would like to invite the EBRD to take part in the project, too,” Sergei Rumas said.
The prime minister expressed his government’s appreciation for cooperation with the bank and the high-level expertise of the EBRD team. “The government will do its best to maintain the present level of cooperation and expand it in the future,” he added.
Jurgen Rigterink, in turn, praised EBRD-Belarus contacts which have become more frequent recently. Due to the increasing volume of operations in the EBRD portfolio, Belarus has become one of the most important countries for the bank, he stressed.
As BelTA reported earlier, Belarus is considering the implementation of a project to launch a high-speed rail service en route Minsk - Gorodishche - China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone – Minsk National Airport.
