DAW opens new plant in FEZ Brest

BREST, 27 May (BelTA) – One of Europe’s biggest producers of building paints DAW has opened its new manufacturing facility in the free economic zone Brest, BelTA has learned.

Attending the official opening ceremony was Brest Mayor Alexander Rogachuk, Brest Oblast Vice Governor Viktor Sakovsky, head of FEZ Brest Administration Viktor Nevdakh, the company’s partners and clients.

The new plant under Diskom Company that makes part of DAW SE (Deutsche Amphibolin Werke von Robert Murjahn Social Engagement) will produce water-dispersion paints, plaster, filling and presizing. The plant’s annual output will exceed 16,500 tonnes with the possibility to increase the production up to 25,000 tonnes.

The plant has become the third investment project of the German company in Belarus. The first plant the company opened in FEZ Brest in 2000 produces license water-dispersion materials. Four years ago a dry mix production was opened in the industrial zone Airport. A total of €4 million was invested in the production of the plant.

The new plant is an important milestone in the company’s development, Executive Board Member of DAW SE Daniel Weber said in his greeting speech. “As a family business which is over 100 years old our company has always wanted to be a reliable partner. Therefore, despite the last year’s economic crisis we fulfilled our financial commitments to the Brest City Hall and FEZ Brest in full. The new plant is a mix of advanced technologies in environment, security, energy saving and quality control,” he said.

The plant has been built in line with the latest technologies and fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, which will help strengthen the effect of import substitution of a wide range of paint and coatings and saturate the market of building materials with high-quality products of domestic manufacture. Today, the company exports over 30% of its produce. There are plans to increase this figure by another 20% by the end of 2015. Paint and coatings produced in Brest are sold to Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan.

The assortment of products considerably expands on the annual basis, said Viktor Naumovets, Director General of Diskom Company. “Alongside with the introduction of new product lineups we create additional jobs. We will focus our investment in the product promotion and service departments,” he said.

Today Diskom employs over 200 specialists in production, sales and customer service. The company’s products are represented on the Belarusian market under four trademarks: world-renowned Caparol and Alpina, and Belarus’ Diamant and Diskom.
