MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) - The Consulate General of Belarus in Ho Chi Minh City will work, among other things, to promote trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and the southern region of Vietnam, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission.
On 5 December 2022, during a ceremony at the Consulate General of Belarus in Ho Chi Minh City, Belarusian Ambassador in Vietnam Uladzimir Baravikou, Minsk Vice Mayor Nadzeya Lazarevich and Consul General of Belarus in Ho Chi Minh City Ruslan Varankou “pressed the launch button” to commence consular services by the Consulate General.
During a brief speech at the ceremony, Belarusian Ambassador Uladzimir Baravikou hailed this as the landmark event in the history of relations between Belarus and Vietnam, describing the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City as an outpost of Belarus in the southern region of Vietnam.
The event was also attended by representatives of Belarusian business community, media, staff of the Embassy of Belarus in Vietnam and the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City. In the future, the consular district of the Consulate General of Belarus in Ho Chi Minh City will include other provinces of south Vietnam.
During the visit to Ho Chi Minh City, Nadzeya Lazarevich, the head of the delegation from Minsk, held meetings with the heads of a number of Vietnamese companies. Belarus' trade and economic potential was presented at the meeting with Tran Ngoc Liem, Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ho Chi Minh City. The Minsk vice mayor spoke about the interest in developing constructive and dynamic relations between Minsk and Ho Chi Minh City, primarily in the trade and economic sector. Special attention was paid to expanding the legal framework between the chambers of commerce and industry of the two cities. A draft agreement on cooperation between the two institutions was handed to the Vietnamese representatives. Issues of bilateral cooperation in trade, economy and investment were discussed at the meeting with Chairman of Sovico Group Nguyen Thanh Hung. The parties also discussed ways to intensify cooperation between the Belarusian and Vietnamese women's associations.
