Chinese Liaocheng eager to do business with Belarusian Gomel

GOMEL, 1 June (BelTA) – The Chinese city of Liaocheng is interested in cooperation with Gomel. Liaocheng Vice Mayor Li Zhihua made the statement as he met with representatives of the Gomel City Executive Committee on 1 June, BelTA has learned.

The Liaocheng vice mayor said: “It is our first visit to Gomel. We would like to establish partnership relations, determine joint projects with assistance of Belarusian and Chinese specialists.”

Representatives of the Chinese delegation expressed interest in cooperation with Belarusian agricultural machine manufacturers. They noted good prospects for cooperation in healthcare, education, and other areas.

“It is necessary to form a portfolio of proposals. We are ready for mutually beneficial partnership,” noted Deputy Chairman of the Gomel City Executive Committee Sergei Andreyev. He informed members of the Chinese delegation about Gomel’s industrial potential, the social and cultural spheres.

The Chinese city of Liaocheng is home to about 2,700 enterprises. Some 30% of them use high technologies.

In 2016 Gomel’s trade with China exceeded $50 million. In Q1 2017 the figure totaled $14.4 million. The main exports to China are harvesters and confectionery. Gomel imports machines, equipment, fabrics, and raw materials.
