MINSK, 28 December (BelTA) – A Chinese-Belarusian center for commercializing innovations was opened in Minsk on 28 December, BelTA has learned.
Taking part in the ceremony were Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus Alexander Shumilin, First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Sergei Chizhik, and Chief Executive Officer of SZAO Industrial Park Development Company Hu Zheng.
Alexander Shumilin told media that the center will provide support for R&D and innovative projects. It will seek investors for the sake of setting up joint manufacturing enterprises in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone.
The official reminded that a Belarusian-Chinese forum on commercializing R&D results took place in Minsk in August 2016. It was organized by the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and SZAO Industrial Park Development Company. The forum gathered about 150 representatives of the scientific and business communities, including 12 heads of China’s top venture funds. About 200 innovative projects were presented, including projects that can be implemented in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. The forum participants compiled a list of 43 promising R&D and innovative projects that had attracted the strongest interest of potential investors. The work to commercialize the projects, including projects on this list, will begin within the framework of the Chinese-Belarusian center for commercializing innovations. “The center will prepare Belarusian innovative R&D projects. Together with Chinese partners we are going to look for potential investors and get them together on the basis of the center,” said Alexander Shumilin.
First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Chizhik underlined the importance of opening the Chinese-Belarusian center for commercializing innovations in Minsk. “The Great Stone park aims for high-tech manufacturing and innovations in the area of high technologies. We will work hard within the next 12 months to fill the infrastructure to be created in the Year of Science with projects,” said the official.
According to Chief Executive Officer of SZAO Industrial Park Development Company Hu Zheng, the top-priority task of the industrial park is to encourage the establishment of new-type manufacturing enterprises in order to increase the high technology rating of the park. “By doing it, we have to carry out the task set by the two heads of state and advance the development of the China-Belarus industrial park,” stressed Hu Zheng.
He also said that the construction of an R&D center as large as 12,000m2 will begin in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone in 2017. R&D organizations, foundations, and research institutions will be invited to work in the R&D center.
