China’s Yunnan Province eager to advance cooperation with Belarusian companies

MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) – China’s Yunnan Province is interested in advancing cooperation with Belarus at the level of enterprises and organizations. The possibilities were discussed as members of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament met with a delegation of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Province People’s Congress on 11 July, BelTA has learned.

Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee Yang Baojian noted that the Chinese side is interested in stronger cooperation. In his opinion, it is necessary to advance cooperation not only between the governments, but also between local organizations. “Tight contacts between enterprises will allow effectively stepping up trade and economic cooperation,” he added.

Ways to strengthen mutually beneficial partnership between Belarus and Yunnan Province within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative and the promotion of joint projects were discussed during the meeting. Among promising avenues of cooperation the sides mentioned healthcare and pharmaceutics, agriculture and forestry industry, education.

Yunnan Province is a mountainous province located in China’s southwest. It borders on Laos, Vietnam, and Myanmar. Over 150 kinds of natural resources (93% of the total number the country has) are mined and extracted in the province. Yunnan Province boasts about one third of the world’s tin reserves. The province has a well-developed mining industry, including coal industry, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, and agriculture.
