MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – Taking into account the local visa-free programs, the airports in Brest and Grodno may become attractive for transit travelers, Vitaly Gritsevich, deputy director of the tourism department – head of tourism planning at the Sport and Tourism Ministry of Belarus, told reporters, BelTA has learned.
Residents of the bordering Polish regions could take advantage of such opportunity. “As far as I know, negotiations are underway with some airlines in Europe to attract them to the Grodno airport. Similar work is in progress with regard to the Brest airport,” Vitaly Gritsevich said.
The regional airports are also extending their charter programs, developing infrastructure. In particular, the work to extend the runway is nearing completion in Brest. This will give opportunities to receive more aircraft. The Gomel airport capacity utilization is increasing too. “For the time being we are talking about charter flights,” Vitaly Gritsevich said.
