KAZAN, 25 May (BelTA) – Russia’s Tatarstan is interested in ramping up cooperation in mechanical engineering and petrochemistry with Belarus, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said during negotiations with Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov on 25 May, BelTA has learned.
“Belarusian companies have been operating in the Tatarstan market for quite a long time and gained solid experience. I believe that Belarus-Tatarstan cooperation in mechanical engineering and petrochemistry has achieved certain progress. Today we are also exploring cooperation in medicine. The economy is still going through hard times and the growth will not come just by itself. We need new markets, partners, and products.
This is what we should be doing together. Oil refinery and mechanical engineering are the points of growth for Tatarstan. Nano- and biotechnology, production of composite materials, robotics, and IT are also rapidly developing sectors in Tatarstan,” Rustam Minnikhanov noted. He also called for enhancing humanitarian cooperation and giving more focus to scientific and technical collaboration. This will help make Belarusian and Tatarstan companies more competitive. Rustam Minnikhanov mentioned sport and tourism among promising avenues of cooperation, too.
He views the visit of the Belarusian delegation as a good opportunity to discuss the current state and the prospects of Belarus-Tatarstan ties. “We hope that this visit to Tatarstan will give an impetus to our mutually beneficial cooperation,” Rustam Minnikhanov summarized.
