Business Promotion Council to focus on systemic problems in Belarus

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – The Business Promotion Council will be working to address the systemic problems in Belarus, Chairman of the Council, the head of the Council of Ministers Office Alexander Turchin said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The Business Promotion Council will set up groups that will be working in focus areas. “We would like to focus on the problems that affect all regions, all economic entities and which are systemic in nature,” Alexander Turchin said. He noted that the council will be working hand in hand with the government and that the issues of concern to entrepreneurs will be resolved in a short period of time.

The first meeting was held in Minsk on 24 October. “We had an engaged discussion and drew up the agenda for the near future,” Alexander Turchin said. According to him, the issues raised by the business community include Decree No. 488 (its enforcement), the collection of statistical data, and so on. Improving the legislation is also among the objectives of the council, he added.

The updated Business Promotion Council will work more closely with the regions. Meetings will be held in all the regions of Belarus. The next meeting may be held in Grodno Oblast in a month’s time, Alexander Turchin said.

As BelTA reported earlier, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed Decree No.370 “On the Business Promotion Council” on 10 October. The document enhances the role of the Business Promotion Council and vests it with a number of additional powers. The council will now be in charge of examining and approving draft legal acts, including technical ones, that have an impact on the business doing environment. The council will send its proposals on legislation improvement to the Economy Ministry and the government. These proposals will be mandatory for consideration.
