BREST, 30 May (BelTA) – Brest Oblast and Russia’s Kaliningrad Oblast are getting ready to sign a cooperation agreement during the third Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from Brest Oblast Governor Anatoly Lis.
The Brest Oblast Governor said: “During the forum we are supposed to sign the cooperation agreement with the Kaliningrad Oblast governor. We are going to meet with our constant partners from regions of the Russian Federation such as Krasnodar Territory, Voronezh Oblast, Bryansk Oblast, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District, and other ones. During the meetings we will analyze progress in implementing the existing agreements. Apart from that, we will invite a number of governors to Brest Oblast in order to continue working here.”
On the whole, the Brest Oblast Governor spoke in positive terms about trade and economic ties with Russian regions. In his words, Brest Oblast has not reduced merchandise export to the Russian market, primarily foods. The export of construction services is another area of efforts. “Our civil engineering industry operates at less than 100% capacity. This is why we are trying to work very hard in this direction, in particular, with Kaliningrad Oblast. I think we will increase our presence there. We have recently won the tender to build residential houses in the town of Gusev. We are also busy building homes in Moscow and the oblast in addition to building roads,” said Anatoly Lis.
The third Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 7-8 June. It will be focused on social and humanitarian cooperation in the Union State of Belarus and Russia, on advancing trade and economic ties between regions and bolstering cooperation in the industrial sphere. Panel sessions will be held to discuss nine areas of focus. The third session of the Belarus-Russia interparliamentary commission on interregional cooperation will be held as part of the forum as well.
