Brest Oblast interested in cooperation with India’s textile and pharmaceutical industries

BREST, 30 March (BelTA) - Textile and pharmaceutical industries are the most promising in terms of establishing cooperation between the business communities of Brest Oblast and India, Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Anatoly Lis said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Pankaj Saxena, BelTA has learned.

In 2015 the trade between economic entities of Brest Oblast and India amounted to $17 million, with export reaching about $8,000. The major exports of the Belarusian region to India are tannage, printed products, linen, ethyl alcohol. India supplies seafood, canned vegetables, medicines, cotton yarn to Brest Oblast. “The export potential of the region is not used to the full. In Baranovichi we have a major cotton company which makes good fabrics. We could work more actively on this front,” Anatoly Lis said.

Brest Oblast is interested in developing cooperation with India’s pharmaceutical industry. The Governor suggested producing medicines using the existing capacities, or creating enterprises, including using the potential of the Brest Free Economic Zone. “In this regard, I believe we have a great potential. I think Indian businessmen would be interested in the opportunity to set up logistic centers in Brest Oblast to promote their products to the European market,” Anatoly Lis said.

He invited Pankaj Saxena and representatives of the business community of India to take part in the international forum/exhibition of business contacts Brest 2016 which will be held on 21-22 April. The Brest Oblast Governor noted that the region would like to develop long-term mutually beneficial cooperation with India and is ready for a constructive dialogue.

Pankaj Saxena is in Brest Oblast on 29-30 March. According to the diplomat, the purpose of the visit is to expand trade relations between India and Brest Oblast. The head of the diplomatic mission has already held talks with the Brest Office of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the administration of the Free Economic Zone Brest, met with the directors of the enterprises interested in supplying their products to India. According to the Ambassador, the meetings were very successful.
