Brest Oblast eager to export apparel, dairy products to Pakistan

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) – Brest Oblast intends to export $2 million worth of merchandise to Pakistan in 2017, BelTA learned from Mikhail Serkov, Deputy Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

“We have already made some groundwork for exporting $2 million worth of merchandise to Pakistan. It is a task for this year. We are talking about exporting clothes. I also hope that we will be able to export dairy products and will secure a market niche for other products, too. Export to other distant-arc countries may be increased via Pakistan,” noted Mikhail Serkov after Brest Oblast Governor Anatoly Lis met with Governor of Balochistan Province Muhammad Khan Achakzai.

The head of the Pakistani delegation underlined: “It was a very useful conversation. We sketched out the main priorities for interaction. I am convinced that we will reach a new level of cooperation in the near future. It is hard to say now what areas may be prioritized, this is why we talked about only six or seven things. While in Belarus we also intend to visit individual companies and meet with people. I think other ideas for working together will appear.”

During the meeting Anatoly Lis and Muhammad Khan Achakzai agreed that the regions should establish contacts in light industry and processing industry, logistics, civil engineering, education and tourism as well as other areas.

The Balochistan Province delegation arrived in Belarus upon the invitation of the Brest Oblast Governor. While in Belarus representatives of Pakistan are expected to visit top companies in Brest Oblast and hold negotiations with the management. Apart from that, members of the delegation are expected to meet with representatives of the Belarusian Industry Ministry. The visit is expected to end on 25 February.
