Brest Oblast-Armenia trade up by 35% in January-July

Brest Oblast-Armenia trade up by 35% in January-July

BREST, 25 September (BelTA) – In January-July 2018, Brest Oblast and Armenia increased mutual trade by about a third compared to the same period in 2017, Chairman of the Brest Oblast Council of Deputies Yuri Narkevich said as he met with the Armenian delegation led by Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov on 25 September, BelTA has learned.

“In January-July 2018, the trade between Brest Oblast and Armenia exceeded $1.7 million, up by 35% to the same period a year before. We supply meat and dairy products, furniture, particle boards, toys and other goods. Despite the growth in trade, the potential capacity of our cooperation has not been exploited in full. We believe that today’s meeting will give a fresh impetus to long-term mutually beneficial cooperation,” Yuri Narkevich said.

Eduard Sharmazanov noted that Armenia is interested in forging closer ties with Belarusian regions. “MPs should do their best to facilitate contacts between our regions. It is a prerequisite for close interstate cooperation. For example, Brest Oblast and Ararat Oblast maintain contacts, but I think this cooperation should get a stronger foothold,” the head of the Armenian delegation believes.

The parties are set to discuss in detail cooperation prospects across various economic sectors and social sphere. The Armenian MPs are set to tour Gefest Tekhnika and STiM companies. They will also visit the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex. “Every time we come to Brest, we visit the sacred land of the citadel. The Great Victory and the Brest Fortress symbolize the courage not only of the Belarusian nation, but also people of Armenia. It is very important for us to cherish these traditions and to venerate the heroes, the defenders of the Fatherland,” Eduard Sharmazanov said.
