GOMEL, 22 September (BelTA) – In January-August 2020 the Belarusian steel mill BMZ sold more than $11 million worth of reinforcement bars to Africa as part of the efforts to diversify sales. The figure exceeds the one registered in January-August 2019 by nearly 20%, BelTA has learned.
In January-August 2020 BMZ sold over 564,000 tonnes of reinforcement bars. As much as 90% of it was exported. The company exported reinforcement bars to 19 countries across the world and earned over $200 million. The largest buyers are Russia, Israel, Lithuania, Ukraine, and the UK. The African importers include Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Benin and Ghana. Shipments to Ghana tripled in physical terms.
On the whole, in January-August 2020 BMZ exported 1.4 million tonnes of metal products to 51 countries. More than half of the shipments went to Europe. The share of African countries in the total export exceeded 12% in January-August 2020.
The public joint-stock company (OAO) BMZ, the Management Company of the holding company Belarusian Metallurgical Company (BMC), is a high-tech Belarusian metallurgical enterprise. It comprises infrastructure shops and four manufacturing divisions connected by one technological chain. The divisions focus on steel smelting, mill products, pipe products, hardware items. BMZ exports more than 80% of its output every year.
