MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – A team of experts from the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has arrived in Belarus to deliver a technical support mission (TSM) at the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP), BelTA learned from Eduard Svirid, the head of the information and public relations department at the BelNPP.
The mission is conducted by the WANO Moscow Regional Center at the invitation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
The experts will present technical maintenance and repair strategies to BelNPP employees. The TSM team comprises representatives of the WANO Moscow Regional Center, Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant, Rostov Nuclear Power Plant, and the companies Atomtekhenergo and Atomenergoremont.
The experts will develop recommendations to improve the process of making effective operational decisions.
The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) unites every company and country in the world with an operating commercial nuclear power plant to achieve the highest possible standards of nuclear safety.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build an AES-2006 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The BelNPP will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020.
