MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) – The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) has been connected to the grid, BelTA learned from the Telegram-channel of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.
"The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was connected to the country's unified power grid at 12.03," the Energy Ministry said.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW. The Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom is the general contractor.
The loading of nuclear fuel into the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant began on 7 August when the first fuel rod array with fresh nuclear fuel was inserted into the reactor. The reactor power startup of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is expected to happen in November 2020.
