Bellegprom: PPE supplies in Belarus meet demand

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – The demand for medical personal protective equipment (PPE) in Belarus has been fully satisfied, spokeswoman for the Belarusian state light industry concern Bellegprom Marina Vaskevich told BelTA.

“There is a sufficient supply of masks for both medical and domestic purposes. Light industry enterprises produce 50,000 items of medical protective clothing (gowns, overalls, hats and shoe covers) a day. “We can say that Belarus is absolutely independent of PPE imports,” said the spokeswoman.

Given a wide production of protective masks in Belarus, the companies have started to promote their products in the markets of the European Union and the CIS countries. Supplies will be possible after the ban on the export of protective products is lifted. “Yet, the priority remains to provide Belarusian citizens and healthcare institutions with means of protection,” the representative of Bellegprom stressed.

Following the head of state’s instructions, about 100 light industry enterprises of various forms of ownership got involved in the production of protective masks. As of 15 April 2020, the daily production volume reached 2.3 million masks. Since February 2020 some 31.5 million masks have been produced in the country.
