Belkommunmash may start producing electric buses in Georgia’s Tbilisi

TBILISI, 22 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian mechanical engineering company Belkommunmash may start manufacturing electric buses in Tbilisi, Belkommunmash director general Vladimir Korol told journalists on 22 March, BelTA informs.

According to Vladimir Korol, several fruitful meetings have already taken place, including between the mayors of Minsk and Tbilisi. The Georgian capital needs to upgrade its public transport fleet and has an interest in electric buses. “We have agreed to deliver a hybrid electric bus and an electric bus for trial operation in the next two or three months. Prior to this date, we will host a group of Georgian specialists and senior officials to discuss every detail,” Vladimir Korol noted.

Three major Georgian cities have also shown a similar interest, he added.

In his words, taking into account the distance between the two cities, it does make sense to consider manufacturing electric buses in Georgia. “This will not cause any troubles. I have examined a repair factory. This is a serious project. This is not only about assembly and delivery. We will also bring together our energy opportunities. We hope this will be a comprehensive project,” the director general stated.

Belkommunmash will soon present a detailed concept and business plan before Tbilisi top officials, Vladimir Korol remarked.
