MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Brazil continue discussing prospects of setting up an enterprise to assemble Belarusian tractors and prospects of interaction within the framework of a program on developing agriculture in Brazilian provinces, representatives of the Belarusian embassy in Brazil told BelTA.
According to the source, Belarus and Brazil are very much alike despite the geographical distance because both countries pay close attention to the development of agriculture.
A plan on developing the country’s agriculture was presented in Brazil’s capital city Brasilia on 28 June. The plan outlined prospects of development of the country’s agribusiness for the next two years. Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva took part in the event. Among other things the plan suggests enabling preferential conditions for family farms, in particular, by providing them with affordable, reliable, and simple to operate tractors.
The day before Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Brazil Sergei Lukashevich met with Brazilian Minister of Agricultural Development and Family Agriculture Paulo Teixeira. As a result, two Belarusian tractor models – MTZ-152 and MTZ-622 – were put into a demonstration area in front of the Brazilian president’s palace.
Brazilian government officials were made familiar with the Belarusian tractors on display while the Brazilian minister of agricultural development and family agriculture personally tested the MTZ-152 model in action. He remarked that Belarusian tractors are an excellent solutuion for private family farms in Brazil, the embassy said.
On 29 June the sides held another round of negotiations but in an expanded format. Representatives of the governments of several states of Brazil and representatives of a Brazilian partner of the Belarusian tractor manufacturer MTZ took part in them. They continued discussing prospects of setting up an assembly enterprise to make Belarusian tractors in Brazil and of inclusion into agricultural development programs of Brazilian states.
The two Belarusian tractors, which had been decorated using Brazil’s national colors as requested by the Brazilian side, will remain on display in front of the Brazilian Ministry of Agricultural Development and Family Agriculture for a month.
