MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – The united electricity market of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will become operational on 1 January 2024. Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich made the relevant statement in BelTA’s press center on 20 December.
An interstate agreement on setting up the united electricity market of the Union State of Belarus and Russia is in development now. The relevant organizations are working out terms of interaction for sellers and buyers of electricity and matters concerning the development of infrastructure.
In line with the relevant Union State program the united electricity market will become operational on 1 January 2024. Trade between authorized organizations of Belarus and Russia will be possible then. There are plans to transition to deeper integration as from 1 January 2027 that will allow commercial entities to work on the common electricity market on equal terms.
