DUSHANBE, 14 September (BelTA) – The interest in Belarusian products is increasing in Tajikistan every year, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Tajikistan Olga Gavruk told reporters on 14 September, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about the trade and economic relations, the Ambassador noted with regret that the trade turnover remains rather small. For example, last year it was $35 million, the export of Tajikistan to Belarus was $5 million. “I believe that the potential of trade is much bigger. The interest in Belarusian products is increasing in Tajikistan every year,” Olga Gavruk said.
First of all, this pertains to Belarusian equipment. In particular, Belarusian tractors remain the most popular farm machines in Tajikistan. The Ambassador said that when Japan provided a government grant for the purchase of farm vehicles to Tajikistan, the Prime Minister of Tajikistan asked the Japanese counterpart to revise the results of the tender in favor of Belarus tractors.
Olga Gavruk noted that since Soviet times Belarusian furniture and refrigerators have been popular in Tajikistan. Atlant washers also sell well in Tajikistan.
Belarus exports various chemical products and foodstuffs to Tajikistan. For example, Belarusian malt is used for the production of a very popular beer brand in Tajikistan.
The Ambassador stressed the Belarus is eager to raise the export of other products in the future.
