SHKLOV, 16 January (BelTA) – An upgraded wastepaper recycling enterprise was opened at premises of OAO Paper Mill Spartak in Shklov, Mogilev Oblast on 16 January, BelTA has learned.
The investment project has been implemented with assistance of the state enterprise in charge of recycling secondary material resources. This enterprise allocated over Br16 million while Spartak appropriated Br0.7 million.
The pulverization and pretreatment department has been upgraded as well as the second line of the papermaking machine. The upgraded equipment can now process low-quality waste paper.
Aleksandr Pshenny, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom, noted that investments in modernization will considerably improve the quality of products and the environmental situation at the enterprise and in the city as a whole.
According to the source, the equipment will triple the processing of low-quality wastepaper and will increase the overall wastepaper recycling by 30%. It will allow the paper mill to become one of the country’s top wastepaper processing enterprises. Starting next year the enterprise will process 60,000 tonnes of wastepaper or nearly as much as two oblasts of the country – Mogilev Oblast and Minsk Oblast – can collect.
The previous modernization took place in 2008-2010. Back then the company radically upgraded the paper manufacturing process, built a new papermaking machine and set up a corrugated fiberboard manufacturing division.
Environmental issues were addressed in the course of the latest retooling campaign. The workload of the city’s sewage treatment facilities will be reduced because the company will produce less waste water. It will reduce the man-induced impact on the Dnieper River. The paper mill will take 40% less water from the river for manufacturing needs (36,000m3 instead of 60,000m3 per month).
Paper grain will be removed almost completely from the company’s waste. The percentage of waste to the volume of recycled wastepaper will drop from 11% to 8.5%. The company will recover extra 1,475 tonnes of fiber instead of burying it. Electricity usage per tonne of finished products will drop by 5.7% (from 567.9kWh to 535.5kWh).
Director of RUP Paper Mill Spartak Yuri Luka specified that the payback period of the project will not exceed five years.
Natalya Grintsevich, director of the state enterprise in charge of recycling secondary material resources, remarked that the enterprise finances projects relating to the collection and recycling of secondary material resources. Assistance had also been granted to Slonim Cardboard and Paper Mill Albertin.
In her words, at present virtually every other Belarusian sorts his or her waste at least partially. “We’ve made serious advances in this area,” the director believes.
The Shklov-based Paper Mill Spartak makes over 20 kinds of products, including corrugating paper, base paper for making toilet paper, napkins and paper towels, corrugated fiberboard and boxes made of it, products for sanitary purposes and hygiene, paper cartridges.
