Belarusian nuclear power plant’s power output system to commission in 2018

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – The system designed to transfer power from the Belarusian nuclear power plant to the national power grid is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, BelTA reporters learned during a press tour of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction site on 20 April.

As part of the project to build the power transfer system new 330kV overhead power lines as long as 1,032.5km need to be built while 672.4km of 110-330kV existing power lines need to be reconstructed. Four power substations have to be reconstructed and the new substation Postavy needs to be built.

The power output system is being built in line with the $340.86 million contract signed by the Grodno Oblast electrical company Grodnoenergo and North China Power Engineering Company (NCPE). A loan from the Export-Import Bank of China will cover 95% of the cost while Grodnoenergo will provide the rest.

The project’s implementation involves 23 phases. Seven of them have been completed already while work is in progress on ten of them.

All the 330kV power lines that connect the Belarusian power grid with power grids in neighboring countries will remain operational. The new power substation Postavy will act as a 330kV distribution station. It will make power delivery to consumers more reliable. The substation is supposed to be commissioned in May 2017. Once the project is implemented, the Belarusian power grid will remain operational if it is separated from the Baltic power grid.
