Belarusian MPs to visit Indonesia in February

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) - Belarusian MPs will travel to Indonesia on a visit on 18-19 February, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia to Russia and concurrently to Belarus Djauhari Oratmangun, BelTA has learned.

"The delegation will include representatives of the working group of the Belarusian Parliament on cooperation with the Parliament of your country," Vladimir Andreichenko said. According to him, the MPs of the two countries maintain good contacts at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. The Speaker expressed the hope that these relations will be deepened further.

Speaking of mutual trade, the Chairman of the House of Representatives said that there are no problems with bolstering trade ties. In January-November 2015 the trade between Belarus and Indonesia totaled $170.2 million, with Belarusian exports amounting to $148.3 million (85.1%). "We would like to see the trade grow further and believe that this is not the limit for our countries," the Speaker said.

He recalled that in 2013 BelAZ won the tender to deliver its dump trucks to Indonesia. "Now a contract is in the pipeline for the delivery of 40 BelAZ dump trucks to your country,” Vladimir Andreichenko said. Belarus is interested in ramping up the supplies of other products such as road construction equipment, petrochemical products, and food products. Indonesia is one of the leading states in South-East Asia, therefore, we believe that through your country we can enter the markets of other states in the region,” Vladimir Andreichenko noted.

For his, Djauhari Oratmangun expressed the view that one of the most important achievements in bilateral cooperation was the abolishment of visa requirements for Belarusian citizens who travel to Indonesia on short-term trips. The diplomat also said that the Indonesian parliamentary delegation is going to visit Minsk on a return visit in May.

To date, the legal framework of the relations between Belarus and Indonesia includes 21 international treaties. Belarus’ main export to Indonesia is potash fertilizers (supplied by the Belarusian potash Company through its representative office in Singapore). In 2013 Belarus started delivering agricultural tractors.

Belarus's main imports from Indonesia include more than 200 items such as natural rubber, coated paper, raw tobacco, cocoa butter, processed fish, footwear, palm and coconut oil, etc.

The Chambers of Commerce of the two countries maintain active cooperation. There are plans to hold a Belarusian-Indonesian business forum in Minsk in 2016.
