MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – This year the Belarusian automobile engineering company MAZ will start making Euro-6 compliant trucks for the European market, representatives of the company told BelTA.

The Belarusian automaker intends to sell new dump trucks, chassis, and truck tractors with various wheel formulas (4x2, 6x4, and 8x4) to the European Union. The trucks will be powered by Mercedes-Benz engines.

The trucks will be available with budget and deluxe options. In particular, five basic models with the engine output starting at 300hp have been manufactured for the European market. After the necessary trials and preparatory processes are over, the vehicles will be earmarked for batch production.

With the new trucks MAZ will be able to step up presence in the Baltic states, the Balkan Peninsula, and Western Europe. The Euro-6 compliant MAZ trucks will offer a good value for money in addition to robust performance, MAZ representatives said. “We certainly objectively evaluate our prospects and the level of competition, however, we truly have something magnificent to offer to European consumers,” noted MAZ Deputy Chief Designer Nikolai Lakotko.

The new trucks will also be sold to Russian trucking companies that transport freight from and to the European Union. According to the source, MAZ will offer Euro-6 trucks on the Russian market before the local manufacturers do that and at the same time the top seven European automakers do that. Although technical regulations of the Customs Union lack requirements for Euro-6 vehicles for now, MAZ is dedicated to developing and manufacturing vehicles that meet the toughest and most up-to-date rules and directives of European standards, said Nikolai Lakotko.
