MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) - Belarusian linen fabrics have made their way to the market of Saga Prefecture of Japan, Belarus’ Ambassador to Japan Ruslan Yesin told BelTA.

On 1-3 December the head of the diplomatic mission is vising Saga Prefecture, with which Belarus has interregional ties. Ambassador Ruslan Yesin met with Mayor of Kashima City Hisatoshi Higuchi on 1 December. The parties reached an agreement to help the Japanese city network with one of the cities of Belarus, and to invite Belarusian athletes to participate in the annual regional marathon.

One of the places in Japan where one can find the products of Orsha Linen Mill is a salon-store in Kashima. Customers can purchase Belarusian linen products directly in the store or order them online. This is the second store opened by the Japanese company NBR headed by Shogo Furusawa importing products of the Belarusian leading linen producer.

During the visit to the store the Belarusian diplomat was warmly welcomed by a group of Japanese appreciators of linen products. They said that most popular are designer linen accessories for clothes, face masks, and also linen fabrics for home décor.

Ambassador Ruslan Yesin and head of the Kashima City Tourist Association Yuichiro Nakamura discussed the further use of Belarusian linen products in tourist facilities, including eco-hotels. As an experiment one of the tourist facilities of the city uses curtains, bedding and slippers made of linen fabric from the Belarusian manufacturer.

The Belarusian diplomat met with representatives of regional business and media and is set to hold talks with senior officials of Saga Prefecture and Takeo city, to hand over the books about Belarus to the Takeo City Library and to hold a presentation of Belarus’ investment and export opportunities in the region.

In January-October 2020, the export of Belarusian linen fabrics to Japan more than tripled year-on-year to $583,000.
